Whirlpool builds washers, dryers, refrigerators, dishwashers and ranges, and the same company stands behind Maytag, KitchenAid, Amana and JennAir. Appliance Masters repairs all of them in South Florida and Tampa Bay, with the price given before the work and a written warranty after it.
The family matters for repair. A Whirlpool top-load washer and a Maytag next to it often share the same drive, pump and control, and a KitchenAid dishwasher shares its wash system with the Whirlpool one. Parts are therefore easy to match, and a fault found on one model is tested the same way on its relatives. Newer machines report faults as an F and E pair: F names the system, E names the fault inside it. Older ones blink a light. Either way the code is where the test begins, not the diagnosis. We are an independent company, so an appliance still under Whirlpool's warranty should go to the manufacturer first.
Common Whirlpool Appliance Issues
Front-load washer shows F9 E1 or F5 E2
F9 E1 is a long drain: the water leaves too slowly or not at all. Clean the drain pump filter and check the hose before suspecting the pump. F5 E2 is a door lock fault. Laundry caught in the seal can cause it, and so can a worn lock assembly.
Top-load washer shows LF, uL, oL or Sd
LF is a long fill, so look at the taps, the inlet screens and a drain hose pushed too far down the standpipe, which siphons water out as fast as it comes in. uL is an unbalanced load, oL an overload, Sd too much suds. When the code returns on a normal load, the inlet valve, the pressure sensor or the suspension needs testing.
Dryer runs but does not heat
Look for L2 or AF on the display. L2 means the dryer is getting only part of its 240 volts, often from a double breaker that has half tripped: switch it fully off and on again. AF means restricted airflow in the vent. With power and airflow confirmed, the heating element, the thermal fuse or the gas igniter is next.
Dishwasher Clean light blinks seven times
On many Whirlpool dishwashers this signals a water heating fault: the control did not see the temperature rise it expected. The heating element is the usual cause, but the sensor, the wiring and the control board are tested too, because replacing the element alone does not always clear it.
Oven shows F3 E0, F5 E1 or F2 E1
On many Whirlpool ranges F3 E0 points to the oven temperature sensor, F5 E1 to the door latch and F2 E1 to a stuck or shorted keypad. Codes differ between models, so we confirm against the tech sheet of your range before a part is ordered.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are you a Whirlpool factory service company?▼
No. We are independent and repair Whirlpool appliances that are out of the manufacturer's warranty. If yours is still covered, Whirlpool's own service is the first call.
My Whirlpool dryer tumbles but stays cold. What is the first thing to check?▼
The breaker. An electric dryer needs both halves of a double breaker, and with one half tripped the drum turns while the heater stays off. Reset it, then check the vent. If it still does not heat, book a visit.
Do you also repair Maytag, KitchenAid and Amana?▼
Yes. They are built by the same company and share many parts and test procedures with Whirlpool models.
There is frost on the back wall of my Whirlpool freezer. Is that serious?▼
It means the automatic defrost has stopped working. The frost blocks airflow, and the refrigerator section warms up first. The heater, the defrost thermostat and the control are tested, and the failed one is replaced.
Where do I find the model number?▼
On the tag inside the door opening of a washer, dryer or dishwasher, on the inside wall of a refrigerator, and on the frame behind the oven door or the storage drawer of a range.
